If used right, ChatGPT can help grow your Amazon business. In fact, we’ve been testing it out on our own products, and, so far, we’ve found about 15 different prompts that are useful and that can even outsource some challenging business tasks to the artificial intelligence (AI) tool within seconds!

In this video and guide, we walk through ideas for using ChatGPT to benefit your Amazon business — plus, we’ll share actual text prompts you can try for yourself.

We encountered a few interesting hiccups as well, so before you start experimenting with ChatGPT AI, here are a few things to keep in mind: First, because ChatGPT cannot estimate Amazon product sales or competition levels, you shouldn’t fully trust it for product research. Instead, it’s best to use it as an idea generator and starting point. Once you have some ideas, head on over to our Product Research Guide so you can fully vet each idea and determine if it can be a viable one for your business.

One of the biggest benefits of using ChatGPT is that it helps you do some of the work faster. But don’t expect all the responses to be flawless — you’ll likely need to do some editing! Before you use any of the responses you get, make sure everything is factually correct. ChatGPT is an AI tool that listens and responds like a human –– but just like humans, it can get things wrong. If something you generated makes a claim of any sort, make sure to verify that information elsewhere before using it.

Now, check it out for yourself!

15 ways to use ChatGPT for your Amazon business

If used right, ChatGPT can help grow your Amazon business. In fact, we’ve been testing it out on our own products, and, so far, we’ve found about 15 different prompts that are useful and that can even outsource some challenging business tasks to the artificial intelligence (AI) tool within seconds!

1. Contact influencers that could help promote your products

There are 2 ways you can use ChatGPT to contact influencers for your amazon business. First, you can ask it:

Who are Instagram influencers in the dog niche that have between 10,000 – 50,000 followers and how many followers do they each have?

Now you can assess the results and start finding influencers on Instagram who are relevant to your niche and potentially helpful for your business.

Once you found a few influencers, you can go back to the chat and say:

My company’s name is [YOUR BRAND NAME]. Write a short outreach message to an Instagram affiliate asking if they want to film a video with my product, [TYPE OF PRODUCT].

Remember to edit the response before you send it to any influencers. Once you have, you’re good to go! Copy the message over to Instagram, and click send.

2. ChatGPT can build your listings

The next way to use this tool is to create new Amazon listings from scratch. It’s great for drafting your titles, bullet points, and product descriptions. Once you’re in the tool, simply ask Chat to:

Write an Amazon listing title between 150 – 200 characters for [your product name].

The reason we ask for 150-200 characters is because typically 200 is the maximum that Amazon allows for titles (though you’ll want to double-check this because each category is slightly different).

Before hitting enter, remember that, when it comes to SEO, your title is the most heavily-weighted section of your listing; it’s really important to include your top keywords. This is why we’re going to ask it to:

Include the following keywords: [KEYWORDS]

If you don’t know what your top keywords are, head over to Amazon and type in the name of your product. From here, pull up the Jungle Scout extension and click “Keyword Cloud.” You’ll see all the top keywords that your competitors are using to rank on page one. Take the top 10 – 15 keywords and copy them back into the chat. Don’t forget to add your brand name to the front and, if applicable, your variation name to the end.

Now let’s go ahead and do this for the bullet points. With bullet points, we tested out several different options; this is the one that seemed to work the best:

Write 5 bullet points between 200 – 250 characters for an Amazon listing selling [your product name]

Bullet Point Format:

Product Benefit: Description

Including the following keywords:

Then you can move on to the product description:

Write a 1,000 – 2,000 character product description for an Amazon listing selling [your product name].

Including the following keywords:

Don’t forget to make edits!

Just like that we now have our title, bullets, and description completely written for us.

3. Optimize existing listings with AI ideas

If you already have your listing live and are looking to optimize it, you can double-check that you’re not missing any of the high-volume keywords that your competitors are ranking for. If you do find any big ones are missing, you can ask ChatGPT to weave those new keywords into your listing.

Copy and paste your bullet points into the chat, and then ask it to:

Add the below keywords to the above Amazon listing bullet points:

If you need to know which high-volume keywords you’re missing, you can use Keyword Scout to pull up one of your biggest competitors (preferably someone who ranks higher than you) and easily find all the top keywords that those products are ranking for. You can also add a minimum search volume, so you only see the top keywords that shoppers are searching for.

Now all you have to do is copy and paste these missing keywords over to the chat box.

4. Filling in backend searches

The fourth way to use ChatGPT AI for your Amazon business is by filling in your backend search terms. These are keywords that are relevant to your product, but that don’t quite fit on your listing.

For example, the phrase “pee pads” significantly outranks “urine pads.” But because it’s still a relevant term that quite a few people seem to be searching for, we want to make sure that Amazon indexes our pee pad product for this term.

So here’s a helpful prompt you can use. Ask:

What words are similar to these [KEYWORDS]:

If you want to take this even further, a quick pro tip is to ask it to:

Give each keyword its own line, and remove colons, commas, and periods.

This makes it easier for you to copy and paste this into a keyword tool like Jungle Scout, where you can not only save it, but also see the search volume for each keyword. This is important because Amazon limits how many words you can add –– so this really comes in handy for prioritizing.

5. Ask ChatGPT to brainstorm a brand name

The next way to use this tool is for generating your brand name. Trying to find the perfect brand name for my business can take up a lot of time, and, while you want your brand name to be memorable, at the end of the day, you really don’t want to get stuck in analysis paralysis.

So this is where this tool can help you discover great brand names in a matter of seconds. Just ask it something like:

I sell [TYPE OF PRODUCTS] on Amazon. I want my brand to be [FUN], SIMPLE], and [TARGET FIRST-TIME PET OWNERS].

Based on this, come up with a few brand name ideas for my business, and a description of what it means.

If you like one of its ideas, make sure it’s not already taken or trademarked. A quick way to do this is to head over to Amazon, and in the url add “/shops/[storename]”.

If you’re in the United States, you can quickly check if the name is trademarked on the USPTO website

6. “ChatGPT, write an email to a supplier!”

Amazingly, you can also use this tool to write supplier emails. As writing a good supplier email can be a tricky thing to get just right, having an AI brainstorm a starting point can be really helpful, and even replace your standard email templates.

For example, you could write:

I am an Amazon seller who sells in the United States. Write a letter to a potential supplier asking if they can manufacture [TYPE OF PRODUCT] according to my specifications: [ENTER SPECS]:

And also ask the following questions:

1) Are you a manufacturer or a trading company? If you are a manufacturer are you able to create models similar to this Amazon listing [AMAZON LISTING LINK] and the attached photos?

2) What is your best price for this product and please provide an FOB Quotation for the initial trial order of [NUMBER OF UNITS]?

3) What is your lead time for sample and trial order?

4) What is the sample cost with shipping by express mail to [YOUR ADDRESS]?

5) What kind of packaging comes with this product? Does your price include customizing this packaging?

6) Does the price you quoted include adding our logo to the product? If not, what does that cost?

7) What is your preferred method of communication?

Remember to edit! This one is a full email, so be sure to read through it carefully before sending it to a potential supplier.

7. Write negotiation emails using AI logic

If you already have a supplier, you can still use ChatGPT AI for your Amazon business; this next way to use the tool is to write a letter to your current supplier asking to negotiate a better price.

Especially as you scale up your business, one of the best ways to increase your profits is to decrease your expenses. And it doesn’t hurt to at least ask your supplier for a better price. Here’s how you can do it — ask Chat to:

Write a letter asking my supplier how we can negotiate a better price for my [TYPE OF PRODUCT]. We currently pay [YOUR PRICE] per unit.

Again, be sure to edit through the full email copy before sending the letter to your supplier!

8. Build your blog, powered by ChatGPT

If you’re interested in promoting your Amazon business off of the Amazon website, you can always write blog posts promoting your product. This is still one of the best ways to drive organic traffic to your listings. However, a lot of sellers don’t have the time needed to research and write on a regular basis.

This is where ChatGPT comes in handy. You can say:

I sell [TYPE OF PRODUCT] on Amazon. Write a 500 word blog post that shares the top 5 reasons why [YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE] should switch from [ALTERNATIVE PRODUCT] to [YOUR PRODUCT]. At the end, recommend checking out the product that we sell on Amazon.

If you thought that was cool, you can also easily turn your blog into bite-sized social media posts. Just say:

Turn this blog into 1 Twitter post, 1 Instagram post, and 1 Facebook post.

In this way, ChatGPT can help you stay on top of a complete schedule of posting blogs promoting your store and products! As ever, be sure to edit your content carefully, as 500 words offers a lot of opportunity for something unwanted to slip in by mistake.

9. Create product inserts with AI content

One of the biggest challenges you’ll face selling on Amazon is getting reviews. One way the ChatGPT tool can help you get more of them is by having it write your product inserts

You can use this command to generate some:

I sell [TYPE OF PRODUCT] on Amazon. Create a very short and fun product insert message. Thank customers for their purchase and for supporting a small business. Ask them to leave feedback on Amazon about their experience.

The AI will then come up with ideas for your product inserts that you can use to encourage customers to review your products!

10. Your own Amazon AI chatbot

Another way you can use this tool is for customer service, and, in particular, writing responses to buyer messages.

After receiving a message from a customer, you can copy and paste it into the ChatGPT chatbox. Then say:

[PASTE CUSTOMER EMAIL]  Reply to the above email from a customer who had a poor experience with our [TYPE OF PRODUCT].

Thank them for supporting our small business.

Be professional.

Acknowledge their problem.

Apologize for the inconvenience.

Offer a full refund or free replacement.

The AI will formulate a response to the unhappy customer, making it more likely you can turn their experience into a positive one! Be sure to edit through the generated response carefully before sending it, as you want to be fully in control of your own customer service whenever possible.

11. Warn off hijackers for your Buy Box listings

ChatGPT can also create warning letters to try and move hijackers off your listing, which is something we’ve had to take advantage of recently ourselves.

On one of our products, we have a hijacker who’s living in our Buy Box just waiting for us to go out of stock. The minute we do, they’re going to step in and sell a counterfeit product under our brand name. Like a lot of other sellers dealing with this issue, however, we are Brand Registered. So while we could go and ask Amazon to remove the hijacker, it’s a long process that can sometimes take a few days or even weeks. That’s why it’s usually easier to just ask the seller to go away.

In the ChatGPT tool, you can say:

Write a cease and desist letter to an Amazon seller who hijacked my listing, ASIN: [YOUR ASIN] Warn them that they must remove themselves from the buy box within 24 hours or we will open a case with Amazon seller support and have them removed, which may cause their selling account to be suspended or terminated.

You can then send the resulting message (after your review and edits, of course!) to the hijacker in the hopes that they will leave without getting Amazon involved.

12. Write Seller Central support cases

Following from the last example, if the hijacker necessitates action with Amazon, you can bust out ChatGPT again and have it write your seller support cases.

In this scenario, we could ask it to:

Write a letter to Amazon Seller Central about this incredibly lazy seller named [HIJACKER NAME] that’s selling counterfeit products on my listing for the following ASIN: [YOUR ASIN]

This greatly reduces the amount of time you’ll spend working with Seller Support, freeing up your time for more productive business activities.

13. Perform product research

With these next few prompts, we will explore how ChatGPT can help you do product research.

In the past, we’ve talked about the six factors that make a good product. But since this tool isn’t actually able to scrape Amazon data, it’s not going to help us with the first three (demand, competition, and profitability).

With that said, it’s still great at helping you come up with interesting product ideas that you can use as a baseline before using Amazon to verify levels of demand, competition, and profitability.

But first, let me show you how you can use it to generate product improvement ideas.

Using Opportunity Finder, we can find a starting point for a good product idea, like “golf training mat.”

From here, we can say:

I sell [GOLF TRAINING MATS]. What are some ways I can make my product unique and different than others on the market?

Then see what it comes up with! ChatGPT can be a great tool for brainstorming, just like with someone else in the room with you.

14. Analyze your reviews

This is another cool way to brainstorm improvement ideas using ChatGPT AI: allowing it to read a competitor’s product reviews and understand what customers are saying they like and dislike about the product. That way you know exactly what you need to do in order to make a better product.

You can use Review Analysis to find a product in your niche with a ton of reviews.

Then use the following command:

[PASTED REVIEWS]

Analyze the above list of Amazon product reviews.

Create a list summarizing:

Top 5 things people like about the product

Top 5 things people dislike about the product

Top 5 desired improvements

Add any other insights that may be valuable

And, again, wait and see what it comes up with! ChatGPT will help you brainstorm product improvements for other sellers’ items, which you can then use to build your own superior product.

15. Allow ChatGPT to brainstorm its own product ideas

The next way you can use this tool is to help you generate interesting product ideas.

There are two main ways you can do product research. The first is by starting with Amazon data (like sales and profitability estimates) and letting that data guide you towards the best products to sell. The second way is by coming up with your own ideas, and then using Amazon data to help validate them.

ChatGPT can work with the second way to come up with good ideas.

Going back to the six factors of a good product, the one that we can influence the most here is “ease to sell;” nothing fragile, electronic, or edible, and preferably products that are small and lightweight, which makes them cheaper to store and ship.

So what we can do is ask ChatGPT:

List [TYPE OF PRODUCT] that are small and lightweight, not fragile, not electronic, and is not a food.

You can then take its ideas and plug them into Amazon to validate whether or not they’d be good opportunities!

When you’re starting to analyze different categories, the first thing you should do is verify the level of demand, competition, and profitability. As long as you have the right tools and know exactly what to look for, you can quickly find out whether or not you should sell this product on Amazon.

How will you use ChatGPT to help your Amazon business?

We hope these prompts can give you a great starting point to help you explore using ChatGPT and AI software to benefit your own Amazon business. Of course, there will be many, many applications for this kind of tool beyond what we’ve covered here — so why not give it a try yourself?
