Amazon Market Trends: Catch Demand Shifts Early

Was last month’s spike in your category a seasonal blip, or the start of a lasting shift? On Amazon, the answer often comes too late to act on. Seasonal peaks creep earlier, sub-categories pull away from their parent, and a handful of brands quietly pick up new demand. When those changes finally surface in a monthly report, a competitor has usually moved on them already.

Market Trends, one of Jungle Scout’s AI Solutions, answers that question while there’s still time to respond. It compares recent weekly and monthly demand against prior years to separate normal seasonality from real change, then shows which brands are capturing it.

You also see how far a shift reaches. A category-wide change calls for a category-level response. If the gains sit with just a few competitors, they’re likely doing something you aren’t.

Go as broad as a whole category or as narrow as a single season:

  • “What demand shifts are emerging in [category] right now?”
  • “Which sub-categories in [category] are growing while the parent category stays flat?”
  • “Is the recent spike in [category] seasonal, or is it a lasting shift?”
  • “Is this growth category-wide, or are a few brands driving it?”
  • “Did this year’s peak in [category] arrive earlier, later, or bigger than last year’s? Which brands captured it first?”

A peak season, side by side

Suppose candy sales in your category felt different this year, but you can’t pin down how. Open Ask Cobalt, or connect Claude or ChatGPT through Jungle Scout MCP, and ask how this year’s peak compared to last year’s.

In seconds, you get the headline: whether the peak came earlier, later, or bigger, and by how much. A chart overlays this year’s weekly revenue on last year’s so the change in the season’s shape is easy to see. Below it, a ranking shows which brands captured demand fastest heading into peak week.

Keep the conversation going from there. Ask which sub-categories drove the change, open Share Diagnosis to learn why a competitor gained ground, or run Category Sizing to see the category’s total size and growth rate.
