Politics influence shopper spending habits. Consumers weighed in on the outcome of the U.S. Presidential Election. Many would adjust their spending habits based on who is in power — including a 30% increase or decrease in holiday spending.
Overall consumer spending was down in Q4. 1 in 3 Americans planned to lower overall spending at the end of the year, and 1 in 4 Americans planned to spend less on holiday shopping in 2020 than the last year.
Ecommerce and Amazon reigned supreme in 2020. Despite a drop in overall consumer spending, 34% of consumers said their online spending had been on the rise. Plus, a substantial 70% of consumers shopped on Amazon during Q3 of 2020.
Between October 1-2, 2020, Jungle Scout conducted an anonymous survey among a panel of 1,002 U.S. consumers about their buying preferences and behaviors. Respondents represent every U.S. state, all genders, and ages 18 to 75+, as well as all employment types and varying income levels.
