Online shoppers came to expect fast and low-cost shipping.
When shopping online, 80% of consumers expected free shipping over a certain dollar amount, and 66% expected free shipping for all orders. 91% of consumers counted on their order to arrive within a week, and 70% of shoppers stated they’d be upset if their order didn’t arrive on time.

Walmart had the upper hand over Amazon in two areas: prices and the grocery category.
While loyalty to Amazon remained strong, 50% of consumers used Walmart.com for low-cost options. And more than half of Walmart.com shoppers said they purchased groceries in Q1 compared to only 23% of Amazon.com shoppers.

Secondhand buying and selling grew in popularity with consumers.
Nearly a third of consumers looked for pre-owned products when shopping online, and 44% said they bought or sold something pre-owned over the last year. Amazon was a hot channel for the secondhand market — 66% of consumers said they bought or sold used items on The Everything Store.

Methodology

Between April 16-18, 2021, Jungle Scout conducted an anonymous survey among a panel of 1,066 U.S. consumers about their buying preferences and behaviors. Respondents represent every U.S. state, all genders, and ages 18 to 75+, as well as all employment types and varying income levels.
